Description
Brooch by Silvia Walz
Unique piece
The Margarethe brooch honours Margarethe Steiff (1847–1909), the German entrepreneur who, despite physical disability caused by polio, founded the world-famous Steiff soft toy company. Her first felt elephant, originally created as a pincushion, unexpectedly became a popular children’s toy and marked the beginning of her remarkable success.
Through delicate composition and symbolic references, Walz translates this story of resilience and creativity into an expressive jewel that functions both as adornment and as a small narrative artwork.
Title: Magarethe
Materials: Steel, copper, enamel, bone, ceramic
