Description
Brooch by Silvia Walz
Unique piece
The Anita brooch refers to Anita Berber (1899–1928), the provocative German dancer and performance artist associated with Berlin’s vibrant 1920s cultural scene. Known for her expressive, often controversial performances addressing themes such as mortality, illness, desire and social taboo, she challenged conventional ideas of femininity and artistic expression. Despite her influence on early modern performance culture, she remained widely misunderstood during her lifetime.
In Walz’s interpretation, Anita emerges as a figure of intensity, vulnerability and radical self-expression. The brooch reflects this complex presence, balancing theatricality with fragility and translating a striking artistic personality into a contemporary piece of wearable art.
