This is Lydia Hirte

Lydia Hirte creates sculptural, wearable works that investigate the tension between form, movement, and material. She has developed a signature technique working with drawing card — a medium whose toughness, flexibility, and resistance shape the foundations of her practice. Through bending, twisting, and binding bundles of hand-cut, hand-colored cardboard, she builds fluid, three-dimensional compositions that hover between control and release, stability and motion.

Trained in Jewelry and Object Design at the Hochschule für Gestaltung in Schwäbisch Gmünd, Hirte transitioned from traditional metalwork to an innovative exploration of paper and fiber. Her work has been exhibited internationally at Schmuck Munich, CODA Paper Art, and the Holland Paper Biennale, and has been recognized with distinctions including the Hessian State Prize for German Crafts (2025) and an Honorable Mention at the Cheongju Craft Biennale in Korea (2025).

For Hirte, every piece is an act of discovery — a quiet negotiation between intuition and resistance, where material tension evolves into a gesture of poetic movement.
