This is Ela Bauer

Ela Bauer’s jewelry is a meditation on transformation and the porous boundaries between form and meaning. Born in Warsaw in 1960 and raised in Israel, Bauer first studied Literature and Indology at the University of Jerusalem before shifting her focus to jewelry — first at a vocational college and later at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam. Now based in Amsterdam, she continues to explore the evolving relationship between objects, identity, and perception.

Bauer’s creative process is grounded in the belief that nothing is ever static — each piece represents a moment within an ongoing continuum of change. She gravitates toward materials such as resin and silicone, which allow her to experiment with fluidity, color, and touch. For Bauer, color is not merely decorative; it is a language of emotion and atmosphere — often the first point of connection between the piece and its viewer.

Her work is guided by open-ended questions: What turns an object into a jewel? Where do we draw the line between the individual and the world? How do growth and decay coexist? Through these inquiries, Bauer transforms jewelry into a field of discovery, where chaos gives way to clarity and meaning emerges from flux.

Her pieces have been acquired by major public collections, including the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, CODA Museum in Apeldoorn, the Danner Collection at the Pinakothek der Moderne in Munich, the Museum of Art and Design in New York, and the Hiko Mizuno Collection in Tokyo.

Each work invites the viewer to experience the world as a series of unfolding moments — where color, material, and form mirror the delicate dance between order and transformation.
