This is Beppe Kessler
Beppe Kessler’s visual sensibility merges painting, sculpture, and jewelry-making into a singular exploration of abstraction and everyday perception. Born in Amsterdam in 1952, Kessler graduated from the textile department of the Gerrit Rietveld Academy, but her artistic path soon expanded beyond textiles to encompass contemporary jewelry, painting, and sculpture.
Kessler’s jewelry — which she affectionately calls “little treasures” — functions as a series of miniature sculptures that blend traditional and unconventional materials, often incorporating elements that appear humble or even worthless. Through these tactile, story-laden creations, she challenges conventional notions of adornment, using material as a language for emotion and reflection.
“Material is the vehicle of my thoughts,” Kessler explains.
Her creative process is an act of translation — turning abstract ideas into tangible forms. Each piece, she says, possesses its own soul, expressed through its shape, structure, color, and material — and often articulated through its title, which captures the essence of its being.
Kessler’s work has achieved international recognition and is held in major museum collections worldwide, including the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, the Museum of Arts and Design in New York, and the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston.
“Where words fail, the unspeakable must be created,” she states — a declaration of her belief in the power of art to transcend language.
Her process unfolds through a constant dialogue between hand, eye, and thought — a trinity that binds body and soul, allowing each work to emerge as a quiet but profound act of communication.
