This is Ruudt Peters

Ruudt Peters’ work is rooted in a profound exploration of the intersection between matter, spirit, and the unconscious. Since the 1970s, he has been a pioneering force in contemporary jewelry, continually challenging convention and expanding the field through his experimental use of materials, forms, and ideas.

Guided by alchemical principles, Peters’ creative process seeks to transform matter into meaning — to infuse it with what he calls bezieling, a Dutch term that signifies the act of putting one’s soul into the work. Each piece arises from an intimate dialogue between artist, wearer, and viewer, transcending adornment to become a vessel of energy and spirituality.

At the heart of his artistic philosophy lies the concept of the Occiput — a metaphor for the unconscious source of creativity. While the occipital lobe of the brain is responsible for processing visual information, Peters reinterprets it as the wellspring of intuitive creation, a place where ideas emerge beyond the reach of rational thought.

In Occiput, he emphasizes that true artistic expression flourishes when the conscious mind yields to instinct — when creation flows from intuition rather than control. This surrender to the subconscious gives rise to works that are raw, personal, and transformative, manifested through abstract drawings and sculptural forms that reflect the artist’s inner landscape.

Peters invites viewers to engage with his work on this deeper plane — to contemplate the relationship between art, intuition, and introspection, and to experience how the spiritual and material worlds can converge through the alchemy of creation.
