This is Philip Sajet
Philip Sajet (b. 1953, Amsterdam) is a pioneering Dutch contemporary jewelry artist whose career spans more than five decades. Renowned for his inventive approach to materials and form, Sajet continually challenges the conventions of jewelry design, transforming adornment into a medium of conceptual and emotional expression.
His work explores the tension between form and force, combining precious metals and gemstones with unexpected materials such as rusty steel, pebbles, and plastic. This deliberate juxtaposition of the valuable and the ordinary has become a defining hallmark of his practice. Geometric compositions, bold contrasts, and dynamic proportions characterize his designs, resulting in pieces that are as sculptural as they are intimate.
Sajet possesses a profound sensitivity to material — his pieces reveal a mastery of both visual and tactile harmony, achieving a balance that is simultaneously raw and refined. He views jewelry as deeply intertwined with the body, creating what he calls “powerhouses” — objects that channel and transfer energy to the wearer.
After studying at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam, where he later taught, Sajet began his jewelry-making career in 1977. His work has been exhibited internationally and is represented in major museum collections worldwide, including the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
Through his fearless experimentation and philosophical engagement with material, Philip Sajet continues to redefine not only the possibilities of jewelry but also the very concept of beauty itself.
